To grow your department and realise your vision, there is often the need for additional sources of funding, and creative measures to ensure that your school can remain on the cutting edge of music.

Jazz Music

Universal Music UK Sound Foundation

The Foundation has helped over 10,000 schools, individual students and teachers improve their access to music through the purchase or upgrade of musical instruments and equipment. There are several grants available:

  • Individuals in full time education can apply for funding of up to £1500 towards the cost of musical instruments/equipment.

  • Schools can apply for funding towards the cost of musical resources.

  • School music teachers delivering the national curriculum can apply for funding towards one off music training courses & CPD up to £1500.

Music for All

This fund offers financial grants to projects and individuals which include supporting organisations and projects that work with children in early years age groups, groups and projects facing financial hardship, choral groups and our annual Learn to Play Award. Other awards in this round include electric guitars, a ukulele bundle and DecPlay piano courses.

Youth Music

Youth Music is a UK charity that focuses on providing music-making opportunities for young people, particularly those facing barriers to accessing music education. 

  1. Trailblazer FundGrants of between £2,000 and £30,000 for organisations that want to support children and young people facing barriers to make, learn and earn in music, through innovative projects that test, trial, or break the status quo. 

  2. Catalyser Fund. Grants of between £30,001 and £300,000 for established organisations that want to support children and young people facing barriers to make, learn and earn in music through sustaining or scaling up their work or changing sector practice. 

  3. NextGen Fund. This offers young creatives grants of up to £2,500 to make their ideas happen. The NextGen Fund was launched to help emerging musicians and behind the scenes creatives take a step forward in participating and changing the music industries.

Restore the Music UK

Funding is delivered to non-fee-paying primary and secondary schools with the aim of giving every child access to musical instruments and tuition. The grant awards are one-off sums with a maximum allocation of £10,000 for primary schools and £20,000 for secondaries. 

Priority is given to schools in greatest need, with a below average music provision and above average Free School Meals and Pupil Premium percentage.

Funding is concentrated on London, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle for now.

BBC Children in Need

After the events of the last few years, Children in Need have developed a new charitable ambition and grantmaking strategy. This focusses on sharing power with children and young people and building partnerships to bring communities and investors together​.They  offer project based funding, funding for organisational costs, and funds for smaller, emerging organisations.

National Lottery Awards for All (England)

National Lottery Awards for All is a funding program in England that is part of the larger National Lottery Community Fund. The program aims to support community-based projects that enhance the lives of people and communities in various ways. While the National Lottery Awards for All does not exclusively focus on music education, it does provide funding for a wide range of projects, including those related to arts and culture. The funding is intended to support initiatives that make a positive impact on the lives of people within the community. This may include projects that promote creativity, education, and cultural engagement, among other objectives.
